Plastic Film Processing

Turning Low-End Plastic Film into Recyclable Feedstock

At Frankfort Plastics, we focus on materials that most recyclers reject—low-grade, post-industrial and post-consumer plastic film. These materials are often mixed, contaminated, or too thin for traditional mechanical recycling. We specialize in densifying these difficult materials, making them usable for advanced recycling and manufacturing.

What Is Densification?

Densification is the process of converting loose, lightweight plastic film into compact, solid forms that are easier to handle, store, and transport. This step is critical for advanced recycling, where feedstock must be clean, consistent, and dense enough to be efficiently processed in shredders or extruders.

What We Process

1

Flexible Packaging Waste

Bags, liners, and overwraps (clean or lightly contaminated)

Mixed and Contaminated Loads

We handle what others can’t

Warehouse Films

Stretch wrap, shrink wrap, and pallet wrap

Post Consumer Film

Including film collected from MRFs (Material Recovery Facilities)

Low-End Film

Lower-quality polyethylene (PE) including HDPE and LDPE

Our processing equipment is designed to deal with high contamination levels, allowing us to recover usable material from film that would otherwise be landfilled.

Why It Matters

Less than 1% of plastic film in the U.S. is currently captured for recycling. Most low-end film is either too dirty or too complex to process mechanically. Our densification process creates consistent, contaminant-free feedstock ready for advanced recyclers, supporting a more circular economy for plastics.
